Start Where You Are
How to know where you are:
Look around outside your door.
Who lives near you?
What grows near you?
Who lived there before you?
Who is still nearby?
Who do you see every day?
Say hi to them. How are they?
Do they need anything?
Baby steps build trust both ways.
Super quick: what if I am a mom/parent/teacher/adult person in the lives of kids who really want to DO something? Is there a way I can really make a real contribution? YES there is. There are more details below, but here's a quick link if you're pressed for time. Learn more about the work of ecologist Doug Tellamy and his Homegrown National Park project.

The Yes To Earth Now DIY art & comedy campaign envisions a specific global conversation about "wild" (AKA green) economics. But before we can talk specific economics, we've gotta be able to talk to one another at all. Art & comedy can help us get there! Global citizens will be invited to play, build new community, enjoy comedy, and just generally have some creative FUN.
It's not just crowdsourcing, it's #clownsourcing  ('recipes' for events, challenges & more will be included)

Speaking of crowdsourcing - there are multiple global projects in which green-minded citizens can contribute to large-scale climate research - and great stuff for younglings as well! Take some concrete action steps and dip your toes in the science waters. Try becoming a citizen scientist, a citizen naturalist and/or registering your garden in a climate map project. Join the Homegrown National Park movement - this is a wonderful hands-on guide for all kinds of folks to engage with. Why not you?

how to be funny:
You don't have to look like an idiot -
but it may help

#Clownsourcing is social media prompt thing, but it's also a way of gathering together the forces of the arts & entertainment worlds: theatre people, all sorts of performers, magic makers and maestros of merriment. These heroes of the new green revolution can bring some LOVE to the global climate conversation and get us going on a WILD ECONOMY. (position paper coming soon)

THE BIGGER PICTURE: A STEP-BY-STEP EXPLAINER OF "THE IDEA"
Thought experiment: Let's (pretend to) Buy An Insurance Policy for the Amazon!
  • What is the Amazon worth?
  • What would it cost to replace it, if we had to completely recreate it from scratch?
  • If we had to analyze all the plants and animals, all that DNA, and replant and repair one of the lungs of our planet, what would that run us?
  • Let's say it would cost a QUADRILLION dollars to recreate the Amazon - btw, that's only about 20% of all the wealth on Earth *
  • So then that's what the Amazon is worth, which means we've gotten it wrong for a very long time. BUT that can be changed (and some folks will make $$ doing that which makes the whole picture shift. Read on for the implications of this one foundational shift. Hint: it will pay for itself!)

We Need A Wild Economy
  • We need to revalue Nature.
  • Nature is worth more when we keep it wild and in place, instead of extracting it to bits while also creating pollution
  • The living systems of Nature provide economic services
  • Those services cost us a lot more to recreate than it costs to safeguard them from the extractive economy. That's what the "insurance policy" price tag proves. It gives us a benchmark to re-value Nature the world over.
  • Undervalued Nature is creating a global accounting error BUT ALSO an opportunity for a peaceful green economic revolution
  • We need a new idea - we need a wild economy! What does that mean...

The World's Wild Places Are Now Major Assets
  • We need to rebalance the global books
  • The world has much more "natural capital" than has been previously understood, but now we know better
  • Nature has been way underpriced, with dire consequences
  • That means we can now rewrite the terms of global debt to reflect the greater truth about the global value of Nature
  • The more wild assets a country has, the better its credit rating should become
  • This credit rewrite for wilder nations generates a new wild economy; Nature left in place and/or restored creates a win-win-win for the planet, the nations & Wall St
  • We can do better! And this is how we can pay for it...

Yes, Wall Street Can Support This Wild Economic Revolution - It's super profitable for them too
  • There is nothing wrong with getting a buy in from the financial sector
  • Getting institutional support makes the transition to a truly restorative and sustainable economy much easier
  • This is still a revolutionary proposal in that for the first time ever, people could make a living as Green Stewards repairing the environment, rather than extracting Nature to make widgets that end up in a landfill, poisoning the water

Indigenous Participation is Critical
  • We ignore the webs of interconnection at our own peril
  • 80% of the world's remaining wild lands & biodiversity are found in indigenously-held territories; no accident there
  • It's a fragile situation, rife with crime and violence
  • The best stewards of deeply wild places are those who know those places intimately, with protocols and wisdom about uses of plants and the delicate interrelationships of biosystems
  • We really need indigenous leadership to guide restoration of Earth's systems. Hopefully they will be willing to share their knowledge and seeds with us in light of the seriousness of our moment
  • Let's show some respect and LISTEN

* Footnote
  • Just one footnote. Check out this estimate of the total amount of wealth and/or worth there is on Earth
THIS BLOCK IS A WORK IN PROGRESS:  This is the part where you make everyone laugh (and/or cry. To quote Steve Martin, have you noticed that comedy is not pretty?) This block explains that this is a decentralized, participatory (thus DIY) campaign in which everyone just takes their own ideas and runs with them. Our goal is to encourage meaningful conversation about the climate crisis and what we can do to improve matters as soon as possible.

In addition to everyday people who like to work on their craft skills and comedy chops, the Yes To Earth Now DIY art & comedy campaign will invite guest artists (think musicians, fashion designers, metaverse mavens, and celebrities from various fields in the sciences, sports & the arts) to share their climate consciousness-raising projects. Perhaps in turn they will enlist members of the public to crowdsource some creative bits (like an artist who uses 1,000 origami cranes by 100 people, for example). These are collaborative and additive works. Social sculpture, really.

Many more details will arrive soon, explaining how to get involved and do your part to get some real climate talk happening in your neck of the woods, wherever that may be. I am still figuring out which is the best email management service to use so I can put a sign up box here. Check back? Or shoot me an email and I will hand compile a list until we're ready.
